How to find a roof leak. As winter approaches, so does the risk of water entry on an older roof. As your shingle ages, the protective layer that repels water gets destroyed by the sun and allows water to soak through. Days of slow rain, or ice and snow build-up, provide the perfect scenario for leak. What do you do?

As ice or snow on your roof starts to melt, check your attic again for leaks
If a leak is found, catch the water in a bucket or pan until a professional can make the repair
